Is Santa Claus Based on Odin?
The comparison usually comes from shared winter motifs, not from direct historical descent. Odin was linked in some later interpretations to Yule, winter travel, and the Wild Hunt, a supernatural ride through the sky.
Because Santa also travels through the sky and appears during winter, some writers suggest a symbolic connection. However, a symbolic resemblance is not the same as a documented origin.
